Single dosing on the Mahlkonig X54

The X54 is Mahlkonig’s allround home grinder: 54 mm flat burrs cut from hardened tool steel in Hamburg, 35 stepless settings covering espresso through to French press, a 1050 rpm motor running under 70 dB, and output between roughly 1 and 2.8 g per second depending on where you set it. Depending on the finish it ships with either a 500 g hopper or a 250 g short hopper.

Reviewers consistently report very little grind retention on the X54, so as with the ZM we are not going to sell you this as a retention cure.

Why fit one anyway

Because the X54 spans espresso to filter, owners tend to move between coffees far more than a single-purpose espresso grinder demands — and every switch means emptying the hopper. A single dose hopper turns that into weighing the next dose. The silicone bellows clears whatever is sitting in the chamber between different coffees, which matters more when you are alternating a light filter roast with a dark espresso than when you are grinding the same bag all week.

Version 3

Every unit we ship today is Version 3. The bellows is a custom branded, factory moulded silicone part — it is no longer 3D printed, as our earlier versions were.

This hopper is made for the grinder named on this page. Fit tolerances vary between units and production runs, so minor adjustment may be needed to seat it perfectly on your grinder. Every unit is covered by our 2 year warranty.
